Join the group

My group at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart uses electronic transport in graphene-based heterostructures to study how electron-electron interactions shape quantum matter in low dimensions. See the research page for the three directions we work on. We are looking for PhD students and postdocs.

Postdocs

Send me an e-mail at j.barrier@fkf.mpg.de with your CV and a short note on why the group interests you.

I encourage applications through external fellowships and am glad to support suitable candidates from project refinement, to the host-institution paperwork:

Fellowship deadlines are set by the funders. Please contact me several months before the deadline, so that I have time to decide whether I can support your application and we can go through several rounds of review of your proposal. The project should be your own idea and fit within our research direction.

PhD students

Prospective PhD candidates should apply directly to one of the institute’s two graduate programmes, not by e-mail to me:

  • IMPRS-CMS (International Max Planck Research School for Condensed Matter Science)
  • MPGC-QM (Max Planck Graduate Center for Quantum Materials)

Both list their own calls, requirements and deadlines. In your application, you can name the group as a group of interest.

Undergraduate and master’s students

I can only host:

I cannot take other internship or thesis requests.
